Advocacy Group Decries PETA's Inhumane Treatment Of Women

I love this video, I really do.

(Those of you reading from facebook, head on over to my blog to watch the video.)

For those of you who don't really get it, The Onion is an American news satire organization. So everyone in this video is acting, except those naked models posing for PETA.

That video is supposed to be satirizing PETA; it's supposed to be a joke, but there's too much truth in it to be funny.

If you know me, you'd know I'm an animal lover. I am all for the ethical treatment of animals.

I know PETA has good intentions. The problem is they're sending out their message in a sick and twisted way. They want people to respect animals, but at the same time, they're disrespecting women everywhere by exploiting female bodies, using them in sexually provocative ways in order to garner attention. It's hypocritical. It doesn't make sense.

'I'd Rather Go Naked Than Wear Fur', they say in their posters, right underneath photos of naked women covering their bits with vegetables/bunnies/cardboard signs. I don't quite understand the logic behind these ads. They are targeted to women, right? Are women supposed to fall for this? It looks like something out of a pervy boys' magazine.

No, really, I don't get it.

That bit in the video, the part where PETA supposedly sends their "response"?

We have no intention of changing our tactics until every last animal on the planet is given more respect than women.

It's hilarious, but I can't help feeling a bit sad, too. It's just too close to the truth.

Here's our very own Amber Chia doing her bit for PETA last year, dressed in... well. Nothing.

Is it even necessary for her to be naked?

Exactly.

Sometimes I feel like we're still stuck in that old society where young women were treated as nothing more than pretty little things for other people to look at and lust over...

---

PETA have come up with some good stuff though. Here's an eye-opening video featuring Stella McCartney.

I couldn't even bear to watch some parts of this video.

If you haven't already, stop supporting labels that have fur in their clothes. If enough people stop buying, they'd stop producing.

Much love,

from Me.

I'm completely against how PETA has chosen to boost their ad campaign. No matter how little head-way they're making in terms of public awareness, this is just the wrong way to go about it. Upholding the rights of one group by violating the rights of another?!

But then, to think they even had to stoop this low just goes to show what the public's attitude is like towards animals. It doesn't justify PETA's move. But it is kinda sad how people feels about animals in general.
